As you may or may not know, I'm an ex-rank with the popular Penguin Hide and Seek group, Team Penguin. I was one of the original ranks, started using the chats on day 1, active since V2, ranked since around V5. I handed my rank in in January of this year due to personal reasons. I was still active with the Team until about V97 or so. I still continue to update fansites and YouTube with penguin information. One of the Team Penguin ranks was able to go to RuneFest, and was able to find and talk to Mod Nancy regarding penguins. Mod Nancy is the penguin curator, she designed all the penguin quests, and the Penguin Hide and Seek Distraction & Diversion.

Here's Big J's post, copied from the V104 thread on the RSOF.

Quote

=-=-= Mod Nancy's Grilling for Penguin hints =-=-=

1) Has the penguin movement ever been sped up?
It's never been sped up, they're just quick by themselves!

2) What does PBJ stand for?
Polar Bear Justice, it was originally Polar Bear Justice League, but she didn't like the league part.

3) Do you ever hunt of your own account?
Yes she does, she's even uses our chats when she doesn't have the time to hunt alone :).

4) Do you have a magic reset button?
No, it's all dependent on what time the server's reset.

5) Will there ever be any new disguises?
She's hoping to make easter disguises for us, she loves the Pumpguins and Snowpengs, but sadly no other disguises for main stream pengs, due to the hard work it takes for the graphic team and to fit into their schedules!

6) Will Penguins always be spyable?
Yes they will, they're a part of the game, they're here to stay! :D

7) Whats happened to Larry? Will there be any more quests after the next one?
Sadly she hasn't found the time to start writing the new quest yet, but, this is probably NOT the last Penguin quest!!!
She's trying to get the other design team to open up a new area for the quest, and Mod Nancy isn't giving up! :).

She also told me that Andrew loves penguins as do many other Mods!
Mod Nancy's an unpopular bunny as Penguins are so so popular!
Mod Nancy thinks the Penguin chats are an awesome group and she loves the work that we do for the community :).

And finally, the big big question we all want to know...
8) Are the Penguin spawn locatiions ever going to move?
Well, she recently became aware that we've cracked the pattern, she said...YES she will be shaking them up and providing us with new spawn points...so be ready! :D

Such an amazing day so far and I'll keep you all posted on anything else.
She loved the Penguin teddy I gave her and it's off on her desk.
She's making a note of the 2nd Year of Penguins on her calender and plan's on dropping by to see us.

Biggie!
Team Penguin Captain! :D

Honestly, I'm surprised she didn't hear that we cracked the pattern earlier. It was done more than 80 weeks ago, on about V23. Although I wasn't able to figure out the pattern myself, me and a group of about 5 or 6 of us cracked every single penguin spawn point. I also can't wait for the Egguins (Egg Penguins, just like Pumpguins = Pumpkin Penguins, and Snowguins = Snowmen Penguins). If you didn't know, the holiday penguins have different sound effects than regular penguins - I personally was the one to figure out that their sound effects are just split-up and/or reversed versions of the original sound effect.

By that do you mean that you know all the spawn points or that you can accurately predict the spawn points weeks into the future?

He already has a list of where all the spawn points are by the pattern.

Both.

We had to know all possible penguins before we could find the pattern to predict which penguins would appear when. A group of us cracked the spawn points each week (wildy was fun..... ish), then us and some others would try to figure out how the penguins fit together into a pattern.

Interesting, so you already know what the locations are going to be next week?

Not off the top of my head, but I have a file that I can look at to figure it out (There's many different versions of this file, mine is more similar to the very original one though). I can predict penguins for next week, next month, even next year (assuming Mod Nancy doesn't change them by then, or if I have the time and patience to do a lil math and looking up each set of numbers)

It's cool that that's possible, but it makes me wonder why Jagex doesn't make them random.

Probably would be too difficult to program.

Some other interesting facts - we've figured out how penguins move. The only other NPC's that move in the same way as them are Bob and his GF, and possibly Implings. With this knowledge, we've found "special traps" that a penguin cannot get out of on it's own, and more effective ways to herd penguins (such as sliders).
