RuneSlayer has teamed up with the RuneScape Wiki, and we are giving away a set of signed copies of the two RuneScape books, Betrayal at Falador, and Return To Canifis, with a writing competition!

You'll be writing a short fiction story about Varrock. We're looking for a minimum of 500 words. Other than that, you're free to decide on your topic -- maybe a story about the past, or what Varrock looks like 500 years in the future, or a story about a King of Varrock. Be creative. We'll be judging the story we like best, and publishing it on RuneSlayer.com and RuneScapeTimes.com for everyone to see!

Rules, In Detail

1. All entries must contain a minimum of 500 words. Please try to keep all entries under 750 words.
2. All entries must be received by midnight GMT on June 3rd [The BEGINNING of the day].
3. RuneSlayer Staff and Administrators are eligible to enter, however, any administrators that enter may not be involved in judging.
4. By submitting a story, you give the RuneSlayer Network and the RuneScape Wiki the unrevokeable right to publish the story as they see fit.
5. Entries should be emailed to competitions[at]runeslayer.com
6. Only one (1) entry per person -- your last entry is counted as your entry in case of multiples.
7. Please also submit your RuneScape username, and your RuneScape Wiki/RuneSlayer username in your email. If you win, we will be contacting you back via email to confirm an address to send the prize to, so make sure you're willing to give out your address!

Already wrote my story (712 words) and submitted it I used Jagex written Varrock Lore to enhance my story

You don't mention who signed the books by the way.

Ugh, I sure hope that I win. I love my story myself, which should be a good indication to it at least being worthy of the reward. If I am beaten, then I hope that I at least like/love the story that wins

Does it have to be about Varrock itself, or can we write about important events/persons that had an impact on Varrock?

I would accept something or someone who had impact on Varrock, as that's related to Varrock. It doesn't just have to be about the town itself.

Is the 750 word max a suggestion or requirement? Because most short stories have a minimum of 1,000 words, anything shorter is considered flash fiction or a short short story. I ask because at the current moment mine looks like it will end at around 1,000 words, and I think that would be a much better max requirement. Though if not, I could probably shave off a bit to meet or get near 750 words.

It is a suggestion, if you're at 1000 words you should be fine. Definitely don't go much higher than that though

I tried, but I couldn't find a way to shorten it without damaging the story. I think I just thought about it too much. Good luck to the other entries though.
